Protecting animals and humans against the threat of infectious diseases

The microbiology laboratory’s goal is to prevent and control infections by revealing the biological character of pathogenic microorganisms at the levels of host animal groups, individuals, their organs, cells and molecules. Focusing on the study of the molecular basis for the ecology and pathogenicity of influenza and pestiviruses, in which our laboratory has played the leading role, faculty members and graduate and undergraduate students are constantly working in collaboration with researchers in Japan and overseas. Designated by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as a reference laboratory for avian influenza, supporting diagnoses of avian influenza in countries around the world.
