Learning from pathogens: Wisdom of their life cycles and survival strategies

The immune systems of hosts (humans and animals) fight against the invasion and replication of pathogens in the hosts. However, most of pathogens have many different ways to evade and disturb the immune systems, thereby causing diseases to develop. Therefore, in order to protect animals from such pathogens, it is important to study not only their survival strategies but also the interaction between pathogens and their hosts, including the host immune systems. In this course, we conduct the research on both molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis caused by different kinds of pathogens (viruses, bacteria and protozoa) and immune responses of hosts to the pathogens to develop new methodologies to effectively control these pathogens.
