A fatty bear during the hyperphagia stage in autumn: Bears exhibit a seasonal change in
body weight, with the highest weight in November. Because they hibernate during the winter,
they store a large quantity of energy during the pre-hibernation period. Bears may have
unique physiological mechanisms in order to accumulate body fat during the pre-hibernation
period.
